Rolo De Peixe (Fish Rolls)

  • 1 lb Fish (pomfret or king fish)
  • 1 lb Potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 3 Eggs, beaten
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs
White Sauce:
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 2 tsp Flour
  • 1 cup Milk or half and half
  • Salt and Pepper to taste


  • White sauce preparation: Melt butter or margarine in a saucepan over slow fire. Add flour and stir for few minutes, do not let it get dark. Gradually add milk or half and half. Stir continuously until a smooth sauce is formed. Add salt and pepper to taste. Set aside
  • Clean the fish and boil it in salted water
  • Remove the bones and mash. Mix mashed fish and potato and add 2 eggs, lemon juice, salt and pepper
  • Shape into a neat roll and allow it to stand in the refrigerator for few minutes
  • Remove from refrigerator and apply the remaining egg to the fish balls and roll into bread crumbs
  • Place the roll on a greased pan and bake in a preheated oven at 400 F for 20 minutes or until browned
  • Serve with a White sauce
