Mackerel in coconut curry with roasted spices

Ingredients

  • 8 Mackerels, cleaned and sliced
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1 Onion, medium, sliced
  • 1/2 cup Coconut, grated
  • 1 cup Tamarind juice
Dry Spices:
  • 4 dry Red chilies
  • 3 Black peppercorns
  • 1 tbsp coriander seeds
  • 3 cloves
  • 1/2 Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Raw rice
  • 1/2 tsp Udid dal
  • 1/8 tsp Fenugreek
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder

Preparation

  • Apply salt to the fish slices and set aside
  • Heat oil and roast sliced onion and coconut together
  • Clear the pan and roast dry spices on a low flame, do not let them burn
  • Grind all the roasted ingredients to a fine paste
  • Heat a little oil, stir-fry the paste for a minute and stir in the tamarind juice
  • Add the fish and cook for 5 minutes or till done
  • Add salt as needed
  • Serve with rice
