Kurle Ambat (Crab Gravy)

Here's my favorite Mom's crab recipes in coconut gravy

  • 8 medium Crabs, cleaned
  • 1 1/2 cup Onions, chopped
  • 2 cups Coconut, grated
  • 2 tsp Coriander seeds
  • 10 Red chillies, dry
  • 1 tsp Tamarind
  • 1 tbsp Vegitable or Canola Oil
  • Salt to taste


  • Slightly crush the crab legs and set aside
  • Heat half the oil and fry Coriander seeds for few seconds, do not let then burn
  • Grind roasted seeds with red chilies, coconut and tamarind to a smooth paste
  • Heat the remaining oil and fry onions till they are slightly brow
  • Add ground paste (from 3), salt and cook for 2-3 minutes
  • Now add the crabs and cook for about 10-15 minutes
  • Serve hot with rice
