Beef or Lamb Rissole (Rissois de Batata e Carne Picada)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Beef or Lamb, ground
  • 3 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 3 Onions, medium, chopped
  • 3 tsp Ginger, minced
  • 3 tsp Garlic, minced
  • 1 Tomato, large, chopped
  • 3 Green chillies, minced
  • 1 tbsp Green coriander, chopped
  • 1 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 tbsp Vinegar
  • 6 Potatoes, medium, boiled, mashed
  • 2 Eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup Breadcrums

Preparation

  • Heat the oil in a pan; saute the onion till golden.CT Add the ginger and garlic; saute for 1 minute
  • Add the meat; fry on high heat for 5 minutes. Add the tomato and the next 6 ingredients; stir-fry
  • Add 1 cup hot water, bring to the boil, lower heat, and simmer covered for 10-15 minutes till done
  • Add vinegar and cook, uncovered, till dry
  • Take 2" diameter balls of mashed potato seasoned with salt, hollow out and stuff with a little meat mixture and bind together to seal. Pat into rounds, dip in egg, roll in breadcrumbs and shallow-fry till golden brown
  • Serve hot as an appetizer with beer
