Colva Beach

Here, the land, sea and sky blend in enchanting natural harmony lined with coconut
palms. Colva located in South Goa is 40 kms from Panaji and 6 kms from Margao, the
second largest city in Goa.
Colva has miles of virgin territory laced with soft white sand for you to explore
on continuous strip of coastline. Longest among all beaches in Goa, Colva stretches
26 kms (with several continuous beaches) along the Arabian Sea. Over last few years
Colva has become our domestic tourist's paddling beach.

The main beach area can get quite crowded, especially on weekends, but walk a couple
of hundred meters in either direction and there's plenty of space on the beach to
relax, with only an occasional visit from a fruit or trinket seller. Swimming is
safe at the beach and visitors can enjoy its white soft sands, shining sun and the
music of waves playing by.

While at the beach, just laze, laze and laze. Grab a favorite book, tie your swinging
net between two coconut trees in a peaceful place or use one provided by the shacks,
and treat yourself through the day.
If you want to stroll down the beach, turn left and head south along the pleasant
- and usually quiet - stretch of beach to Benaulim, a couple of kilometers away.
You can also turn right and head north along the largely deserted beach toward Majorda
and eventually Vasco de Gama.
In season, November to May, seafood restaurants sprout in large numbers on the main
beach area. If you have deep pockets, then don't give any second thoughts, just

and large portions to gorge on, you will not complain. And for budget tourists
there are plenty of offers in the shacks. You will get excellent pasta and steak,
Indian delicacies, varieties of Goan fish and prawn curries. |
Bull Fighting, Water Sports, and Dolphin Sightings
From early October to late May, bullfight promises to be a fulfilled experience
with loads of excitement and local humor in the air. On the beats of Konkani music,
you can witness a bullfight. These fights usually take place in old rice fields
with no barricades.
Water sports on Colva beach comprises mainly of jet skiing and speed boat rides.
You can sometimes see dolphins some way offshore, and the local fishermen run dolphin
viewing trips in their wooden boats.

Some sightseeing
Nossa Senhora de Merces (Our Lady of Mercy) Church: It is a simple church but it
has an interesting history attached to it. The church has a statue of Child Jesus
placed on the altar. The statue it’s believed to be imbibed with gifting powers.
The statue was discovered by 1640 in the coast of Mozambique, and brought to Goa
in 1648. Every year, on second Monday of October Fama festival takes place every
year. The festival and grand feast along with the fair that follows attracts thousands
of locals and is popular with tourists as well.
